Brentwood recorded their second successive Ryman North win after a closely-fought match with Waltham Abbey at The Arena on Saturday.
The two teams kicked off level on points in the league and there was an exciting start to the game with three goals in the first seven minutes. Michael Spencer headed the Abbotts ahead in the third minute but Lamar Reynolds equalised from the penalty spot in the sixth minute after he had been fouled in the area.
Within a minute Reynolds scored again, converting from close range at the far post.
It was 2-2 by the 21st minute after a good break by the visitors. Romaric Logon’s shot was stopped by Blues keeper Ronnie Yates but Darrelle Russell was on hand to score.
Brentwood soon had a chance to regain the lead but Shad Ngandu could not quite convert a loose ball after a good run and shot by Andy Freeman from the right wing.
Reynolds went close to a hat-trick either side of half time and Abbey’s Gregory Moorse clipped the crossbar in the 57th minute, but the visitors goal threat decreased as the second half progressed.
Blues introduced new signing from Tower Hamlets, O’Neal Rowe, and he soon made an impact, threading a perfect through pass for Reynolds who was denied by Abbey keeper Lewis Lockyer.
Marcus Milner scored the winner in the 66th minute, following in to score after Freeman’s shot had been saved by Lockyer. Brentwood threatened to increase their lead and Reynolds had a good effort in stoppage time well saved by Lockyer. .
