Former Town forward Tom Richardson scored twice as Regent maintained their challenge near the top of Ryman North against ten-man Brentwood.
Matt Hall saw red on the stroke of half time after a tackle on Connor Witherspoon but not before he had put the Blues ahead in the 35th minute, converting Lamar Reynolds low cross.
Blues made two changes to the side that had won at Wroxham. With Shad Ngandu injured, Andy Greenslade moved to his more familiar role in midfield and Janel Alexander returned to the back four, while there was a debut for goalkeeper Joe Taylor, who signed on Friday from Leatherhead.
Blues’ Marcus Milner tested R’s keeper Dan Beeson after two minutes and the home side did enough in the first half hour to deserve their lead. However, three minutes after Hall’s opener, Richardson won possession on the right and struck a superb shot to equalise.
Taylor made an excellent close range save from Shamido Pedulu’s header to keep the score level at half time and, after the restart, despite being a man down, Blues started the better side with Ben Sampayo unlucky to see his shot saved by Beeson.
But the pressure began to build and Richardson scored his second goal when he headed in a corner in the 71st minute. Two minutes later, Brentwood went further behind after a penalty was awarded for a challenge on Pedulu and Aaron Condon converted from the spot.
An 87th minute fourth goal by Shamido Pedulu completed the scoring and Brightlingsea remain joint top of Ryman North.
There were more problems for Blues when top scorer Lamar Reynolds had to go off before the end with a shoulder injury.
