Overview

A second half penalty kick by Hornchurch’s Leon McKenzie decided this local derby against ten-man Brentwood at the Arena, a result that left Blues still in the relegation zone but lifted the Urchins up to fifth place.
An even first half saw the visitors’ best chance fall to Gary Cohen in the 20th minute, but he spooned over from a few yards out. The Blues got on top late in the first half with Ife Ogunbayo having their best opportunities, and home debutant Emmanuel Bowens had a shot blocked on the stroke of half time.
The decisive goal came in the 64th minute after Sam Owusu’s challenge on Ross Wall was penalised. Owusu first saw yellow and, after the penalty was converted, he was red-carded for dissent.
