Caretaker manager Craig Shipman saw Brentwood move out of the relegation zone with a comfortable win, their fourth in the last five home games.
Blues included new signing James Pugsley in the centre of their defence and started well with Andy Freeman shooting wide in the opening minutes and Leon Gordon was denied a penalty in the fifth minute when he went down in the area. However, Dereham defender Daniel Morphew conceded a controversial penalty for handball in the 32nd minute, which was converted by Lamar Reynolds.
The goal settled the Blues nerves and from then on, they created the better chances.
The introduction of Harrison Georgiou in the 59th minute added to Blues’ creative spark and from then Brentwood seemed to flourish in attack. Andy Freeman made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute as the winger calmly placed the ball past Archie Bean.
Reynolds could have completed a hat-trick of penalties. Bean saved well from his spot kick in the 66th minute but he got another chance when a third penalty was awarded and this time Reynolds slotted into the bottom corner.
The three points moved Brentwood above Soham Town Rangers, who slipped into the bottom three after a 2-0 defeat at Aveley.
