Saturday 18th February
RYMAN DIVISION ONE NORTH
Brentwood Town had another frustrating afternoon as they failed to take some good chances in both halves at Waltham Abbey on Saturday and were narrowly beaten by Michael Spencer’s 29th minute goal for the Abbotts.
It was a game between two evenly-matched sides that could have gone either way but it was the home side who took the three points, their fourth successive win that puts them eleven points clear of the relegation zone but leaves Brentwood still four points from safety.
Blues created the first chance in the sixth minute when Lamar Reynolds shot into the side netting after a good move with Andy Freeman.
Abbey went close when Daniel Rimmell just failed to get enough on a header from a free kick and it was Rimmell who set up the goal with a right wing cross that was swept home by Spencer for his third goal in two matches.
Brentwood’s best opportunity came when Leon Gordon put Freeman through in the 38th minute but he could not beat James Pellin in the home goal.
Both keepers were busy early in the second half, Brentwood’s Anthony Page saving from Billy Holland and Pellin saving well from Harrison Georgiou’s low shot that was heading into the corner of the goal. Gordon had a far post header from Brendan Cavalier’s cross comfortably saved and Gordon then headed over from Nick Hilder’s free kick.
When Pellin was beaten by Reynold’s in the 82nd minute, Macauley Joynes cleared off the line to ensure the Abbotts fourth consecutive clean sheet.
