Blues out of FA Cup at first hurdle

Saturday 19th August

Two second half headed goals by Ross Wall put Brentwood out of the FA Cup at Hornchurch Stadium on Saturday.

There were few chances in the first half with the Blues best opportunity falling to Matt Price in the eleventh minute but the striker shot over the bar after Andy Freeman created the opening.

Brentwood keeper Anthony Page twice saved from George Purcell to keep the score sheet blank at half time.

Wall put the Urchins ahead in the 64th minute heading in at the far post from a pinpoint cross by full back Jay Porter. Purcell then hit the bar as the home side looked to take control but Brentwood then had their best spell of the match and were unlucky not to equalise on a number of occasions.

Freeman’s shot beat Hornchurch keeper Sam Mott but Alex Bentley cleared off the Hornchurch line. Ryan O’Rawe then hit the bar with a header and his follow-up shot glanced the outside of a post.

But Wall sealed the win in the 84th minute with a diving header from another Porter cross.

Brentwood Town: Page, Pugsley, Foster, Jones, O’Rawe, Cavalier, Hilton (hilder 66), English (Bademosi 66), Price (Gardner 78), Stanley, Freeman.
