A hat-trick by Matt Price helped earn Brentwood their first win of the season.
The Blues raced into a three-goal lead by the 37th minute but were pegged back by two Norwich goals and Brentwood only made the points secure in the 86th minute when a penalty by Price, his second of the game, made it 4-2. Price then hit a fifth goal deep into stoppage time.
Brentwood’s front three of Price, Harrison Georgiou and Andy Freeman gave the Planters defence a difficult time in the first half. Luke Stanley and Georgiou had shots saved by visiting goalkeeper Andrew Wilton before Blues were given the chance to take the lead when Andrew Eastaugh handled in the box and Price converted from the penalty spot in the 19th minute.
Harrison Georgiou with an assist by Andy Freeman made it 2-0 in the 26th minute, finishing off a fine move, and Price then set up the third goal for Freeman eleven minutes later.
Lawrence Cheese reduced the arrears for Norwich three minutes before half time, converting from close range.
Price went clear in the first minute of the second half but Wilton came off his line to save. It could have been a crucial save as it looked as though Brentwood’s poor second half form this season would continue to haunt them as United began to dominate the first part of the second half.
Anthony Page saved from Adam Hipperson and Ben Jones made it 3-2 in the 58th minute applying the finish from Hipperson’s cross. Page then saved from Shaun Wones to maintain the Blues lead and Brentwood gradually regained some control.
However, it took those two late goals to finally ease their nerves. When Jack Gardner was clipped in the area, Price scored his second penalty of the afternoon, and Price then produced a fine finish on the break as he latched on to Billy Rees’s accurate long pass for this third goal in the 94th minute.
Brentwood Town: Page, Pugsley (Martin 53), Foster, Jones, O’Rawe, Cavalier, Stanley (Hilton 76), Rees, Price, Georgiou (Gardner 76), Freeman.
