Saturday 23rd September
BOSTIK LEAGUE DIVISION ONE NORTH
AVELEY 1 – 0 BRENTWOOD TOWN
A headed goal on the hour by Jordan Watson meant Brentwood’s first visit to Aveley’s new Parkside Stadium ended in a narrow defeat on Saturday.
Luke Stanley caused the Millers defence problems early on and he went close to opening the scoring in the 14th minute, cutting in from the right wing and shooting just wide from the edge of the penalty area. But almost immediately after that effort, Aveley nearly took the lead when Jeremiah Maja’s low shot from Paul Preston’s cross was well held by Anthony Page.
Andrew Freeman had two shots saved by Aveley’s Rhys Madden and both sides created chances before half time with Brenden Cavalier clearing in the Brentwood six-yard box after Maja headed down George Woodward’s cross.
Nick Hilder and Freeman shot wide from good positions early in the second half but the visitors fell behind when Watson produced a good headed finish from Jordan Peart’s cross.
Freeman headed a Jack Gardner free kick straight at Madden in the 84th minute and Cavalier had a shot blocked late into stoppage time but Brentwood could not find an equaliser.
Brentwood Town: Page, Gibbs, Foster, Hall, Martin, Cavalier, Stanley (Bademosi 69), Rees (Jones 69), Gardner, Hilder (Hilton 86), Freeman.
