Saturday 30th September
BOSTIK LEAGUE DIVISION ONE NORTH
GRAYS ATHLETIC 0 – 1 BRENTWOOD TOWN
Brentwood ended a run of four successive defeats with an important win at Parkside on Saturday, Andy Freeman’s goal at the end of the first half proving enough for the three points.
It was the second consecutive Saturday that Brentwood had played on the 3G surface at Aveley FC and they made a bright start against Grays with Jack Gardner forcing a save from home goalkeeper Lamar Johnson in the fourth minute.
Both sides looked likely to score and when Anthony Page was stranded out of his goal, having come out to deal with an attack down the right wing, Jamie Slabber headed over the Brentwood crossbar from Callum Ibe’s cross.
Brentwood then created the best chance in the 24th minute with a fine move that culminated in Jack Gardner putting Freeman clear on goal but Johnson did enough to deflect the shot just wide of goal for a corner.
But Freeman did put his team ahead as the game went into first half stoppage time, bundling the ball home in a crowded goalmouth.
Freeman then had a chance to put his team further ahead in the 50th minute when he was brought down in the penalty area but Johnson made a fine save from the spot kick, diving to his right.
Luke Foster and Freeman had further shots saved by Johnson but Brentwood had to survive some late pressure from the hosts but held on for a well-deserved win.
