Tuesday 17th October
BOSTIK LEAGUE DIVISION ONE NORTH
BRENTWOOD TOWN 4 – 1 WARE
Brentwood continued their recent good run with a convincing win over Ware at the Brentwood Arena on Tuesday night.
Brentwood gave Lewis Brown his first start in the first team at left back and he made an early impression when his long cross deceived keeper Tom Coulton and hit the Ware crossbar.
Blues then took a tenth minute lead. Andy Freeman was clear and went down under Coulton’s tackle but Freeman recovered first and found a pass to Matt Price who scored off the inside of the post.
An excellent move culminated in Luke Foster’s second goal of the season in the 34th minute and Brentwood were well worth their 2-0 half time lead.
Freeman was twice unlucky not to extend the lead early in the second half. Firstly, his 52nd minute shot from the left hit an upright and in the 61st minute he got clear again and cleverly lobbed Coulton but the ball bounced in the six-yard area and went over the bar.
A pacey Ware team were not out of the game and they reduced the deficit through a very well-taken goal by Murat Karagul, their most impressive player on the night, and there were some nervous moments for Blues and their supporters as the visitors missed some good chances to equalise.
However, Matt Price’s tenth goal of the season in the 78th minute secured the points. Price exchanged passes with Freeman before firing past Coulton. And Freeman completed the scoring five minutes from time to complete another good performance by Brentwood who have now won four and drawn two of their last six matches in league and cup.
