BOSTIK LEAGUE DIVISION ONE NORTH
SOHAM TOWN RANGERS 1 – 3 BRENTWOOD TOWN
Brentwood chalked up a second league win in four days to move them up to sixteenth in the Bostik North table. This was a particularly impressive performance as Blues had seven of their first team squad unavailable for various reasons.
In the sixteenth minute, Brentwood keeper Anthony Page had to deal with an awkward low cross from Soham’s Joe Carden, which was heading into the far corner of the goal.
Brentwood put some pressure on the home goal following a free kick, which resulted in several shots being blocked by the defence. The visitors took the lead in the 29th minute from Josh Wiggins pinpoint cross from the right wing, which was met at the far post by Matt Price who headed the ball back across goal into the far corner.
The lead only lasted nine minutes before Will Gardner equalised for Rangers with a superbly-struck left foot shot from a free kick.
But Blues were back in front in the 41st minute. After a patient build-up on the right, James Pugsley crossed to the far post for Izzy Bademosi to head home his eighth goal of the season so far.
Soham keeper Josh Pope saved a deflected Daryl Robson shot just before half time to keep the score line at 1-2.
Pope also tipped over the bar an effort from Shomari Barnwell midway through the second half and Blues did not get the cushion of the third goal until the 78th minute when Matt Price finished well, his fourteenth goal of the season.
In the later stages, Brentwood introduced some of their under-23 squad from the bench, Mitchell McCabe, and Tom Mann and Harry Rawlings, who were both making their first team debuts.
Six minutes from time, Joe Bennett had a good chance to pull a goal back for Soham when he found himself clear, but he lifted his shot over Page and just wide of the goal.
Brentwood Town: Page, Pugsley (Mann 73), Martin, Jones, Hilder, Cavalier, Price, Robson, Barnwell, Wiggins (McCabe 78), Bademosi (Rawlings 80).
