Wednesday 30th November

Colchester progressed to the quarter-finals of the county cup after proving too strong for Brentwood at a very cold Arena on Thursday night.

The writing was on the wall as early as the eighth minute when Tommy O’Sullivan put the U’s in front and it was 2-0 with nearly half an hour gone when Courtney Senior created the opportunity for Decarrey Sheriff to score.

Sullivan scored again in the 35th minute and Tariq Issa made the half time score 4-0 moments before the break.

Any faint hopes of a comeback by Blues were ended a minute into the second half when sub Eoin McKeown scored the fifth goal, but Brentwood improved for the rest of the half and created some good chances with Jack Gardner scoring in the 55th minute, the full back finishing a good move with a crisp finish into the bottom corner.

Issa got his second goal six minutes later and O’Sullivan completed a hat-trick six minutes from time, but Brentwood’s Brenden Cavalier went close to scoring near the end with a back heel volley that hit the post.

Brentwood Town: Page, Gardner (Pugsley 66), Martin, Jones (Wiggins 61), Gibbs, Cavalier, Hilton, Robson, Bademosi, Hall, Freeman (Barnwell 66).
