BOSTIK LEAGUE DIVISION ONE NORTH
Heybridge recovered from conceding an early goal to earn three points in an entertaining, and occasionally feisty, Essex derby at the Brentwood Arena.
A tackle by Connor Martin stopped ex-Blues forward Sam Bantick from getting a close-range shot on goal before Brentwood took a sixteenth minute lead. Matt Hall’s low free kick caught out the Swifts defence and Matt Price swept home.
Juan Luque’s left foot shot hit the Brentwood crossbar on 29 minutes but Alfie Hilton and Price both went close to increasing Brentwood’s lead before Kreshnic Krasniqi equalised for Heybridge in the 38th minute.
Blues threatened in the opening minutes of the second half with Andy Freeman having two shots blocked and Martin heading over from a corner kick, but Swifts were awarded a penalty in the 50th minute when Bantick was clipped in the area. However, Krasniqi’s spot kick hit the inside of a post and the ball flew to safety.
Defender Ryan Henshaw put Swifts ahead for the first time in the 70th minute with a far post header from a free kick and Luque scored the goal of the game seven minutes from time with a long-range effort into the top corner.
Brentwood substitute Shomari Barnwell had the best effort for the home side in the closing stages, forcing a good save from keeper Danny Sambridge in the 87th minute.
Brentwood Town: Page, Gardner, Martin, Robson (Jones 78), Gibbs, Cavalier, Price, Hall, Freeman, Hilton (Pugsley 78), Foster (Barnwell 56).
