Tuesday 5th December
BOSTIK LEAGUE DIVISION ONE NORTH
BARKING 3 – 3 BRENTWOOD TOWN
For the second time in recent weeks, Brentwood failed to hold a commanding lead on a visit to Mayesbrook Park. At the same ground in early November, they had led 3-1 until the 89th minute against West Essex in the Essex Senior Cup, but conceded two late goals to draw 3-3 before winning a penalty shoot-out.
On Tuesday they established a 3-0 lead early in the second half against Barking in this Bostik North league fixture, but once again Brentwood were unable to keep their lead as the home side battled back to earn a point with virtually the last kick of the match.
Martin Tuohy shot over the Brentwood crossbar from a good position in the seventh minute, but Matt Price put the visitors in front in the 13th minute with a neat finish after a good move.
Brentwood got a second goal three minutes before half time. Matt Hall’s free kick was headed away, but straight back to Hall, who volleyed a speculative high cross back into the area causing confusion in the Barking defence and the ball bounced over everyone and into the goal.
Izzy Bademosi came off the bench at the start of the second half and scored Brentwood’s third goal in the 59th minute, collecting a pass from Andy Freeman he held off a challenge and found the bottom corner with a shot from just inside the area.
Within three minutes, Hussain Jaffa headed in a free kick to make it 3-1 and Brentwood found themselves under some pressure as they struggled to keep the ball and Abs Seymour scored from close range in the 83rd minute. Harry Gibbs cleared off the line as the pressure on the Brentwood defence intensified but it looked as though they would hang on until Kiernan Hughes-Mason scrambled in the equaliser in the 94th minute.
Brentwood Town: Page, Pugsley (Bademosi 46), Martin, Hall, Gibbs, Cavalier, Gardner, Jones, Barnwell (Foster 67), Price, Freeman (Hilton 79).
