BOSTIK DIVISION ONE NORTH
AFC HORNCHURCH 3 - 4 BRENTWOOD TOWN
Brentwood started 2018 with an impressive away win over Bostik North league leaders Hornchurch. Blues raced into a three-goal lead in the first half and led 4-1 with two minutes of the ninety remaining before a late rally saw Hornchurch pull two goals back.
Two goals in the first seven minutes by Matt Price and Jack Gardner put Blues on their way. Alfie Hilton set up Price for the first goal in the fourth minute and Gardner’s long range shot eluded home keeper Sam Mott three minutes later.
It was 3-0 in the 31st minute when Andy Freeman hooked into the roof of the net, but Blues and their supporters could not relax having twice lost a three-goal lead in matches earlier in the season.
Hornchurch stepped up the pressure in the second half but in the 51st minute Price hit the foot of a post from close range after good work by Luke Foster on the left wing.
However, George Purcell scored a penalty for the Urchins three minutes later to keep his team in with a chance.
Freeman had a shot saved and Price was denied by a great reflex save from Mott in the 69th minute and the game looked safe for Blues when substitute Izzy Bademosi made it 4-1 in the 88th minute with a strong finish, Theo Jones having provided the assist.
But Leon McKenzie headed home at the far post almost straight from the restart to make it 4-2 and Blues then conceded a second penalty in the 93rd minute when Tobi Joseph was brought down, and Purcell scored his second goal from the spot.
Brentwood Town: Page, Gardner, Martin, Jones (Bell 88), Gibbs, Cavalier, Hilton (Bademosi 77), Hall, Price, Freeman, Foster (Pugsley 68).
