Tuesday 30th January
VELOCITY TROPHY 3rd ROUND
SHOREHAM 2 - 3 BRENTWOOD TOWN
This much-postponed league cup tie finally took place amid constant rainfall on the south coast on Tuesday, and two rare goals by Daryl Robson helped Brentwood Town into the quarter-finals of the Velocity Trophy. Blues will now meet Bostik Premier Dulwich Hamlet in the next round of the competition.
Jack Gardner and Luke Foster both had shots saved by home keeper James Broadbent in the first half and it was Foster who gave Brentwood the lead in the 42nd minute, cutting in from the left and driving a fierce left-foot shot inside the far post.
The Musselmen equalised three minutes into the second half when Sean Roddy hit an unstoppable free kick in off the underside of the crossbar. But Brentwood responded well with two goals in the 53rd and 64th minutes, with Robson he unlikely scorer on both occasions. His first goal, which was his first for the club since October 2014, beat Broadbent with the aid of a deflection, but he soon added his second on the night with a shot from outside the area that found the top corner.
There was a welcome return to action after injury lay-offs for both Luke Stanley and Brad Hunter, who both came off the Brentwood bench in the second half.
Brentwood looked comfortable, but Shoreham made it 2-3 in the 93rd minute when Harvey Dunk scored with a firm header from a corner kick.
Brentwood Town: Page, Pugsley, Martin, Jones, Gibbs, Cavalier, Hilton (Stanley 62), Bell, Gardner (Hunter 74), Robson, Foster.
