Tuesday 6th February
BOSTIK DIVISION ONE NORTH
BRENTWOOD TOWN 3 – 1 WALTHAM ABBEY
Tony Stokes scored twice on his home debut as Brentwood earned an important three points at the Brentwood Arena on Tuesday night.
Stokes also set up Alfie Hilton’s goal in the 34th minute, which gave Blues a half time lead. Ex-Brentwood midfielder Shad Ngandu equalised for the Abbotts early in the second half before Stokes struck twice in six minutes to set Blues on their way to their first league win since New Year’s Day.
On a bitterly cold night at the Arena, Brentwood made three changes from the defeat at Haringey on Saturday with Jack Gardner, Lewis Brown and josh Wiggins in the starting line-up. There was also a place on the bench for “new” signing Danny Dafter, the veteran midfielder having re-joined the club for a third time.
Stokes could have opened his Brentwood goal account in the first half. He had a chance in the eighth minute but his attempted lob over Hugo Rossetti failed to clear the Abbey goalkeeper. Stokes than had a goal chalked out for offside in the 29th minute but five minutes later he cleverly played in Hilton who finished well to make it 1-0.
The Abbotts started second half strongly and Ngandu equalised in the 50th minute after a spell of pressure on the home defence. But Stokes struck in the 66th and 71st minutes and Blues eased their relegation worries with a win that lifts them up to 20th place in Bostik North.
Brentwood Town: Page, Gardner, Brown, Hall, Gibbs, Cavalier, Wiggins, Robson (Dafter 75), Stokes, Hilton (Cuthbert 62), Foster (Stanley 74).
