Tuesday 17th April
BOSTIK DIVISION ONE NORTH
DEREHAM TOWN 2 – 2 BRENTWOOD TOWN
With 98 minutes played, Tom Ranger fired into the roof of the net after a spell of pressure from Brentwood to snatch a point from their trip to Norfolk on Tuesday.
Blues had led at half time thanks to Tony Stokes’ expert finish in the 35th minute but after conceding two second half goals they were trailing 2-1 from the 76th minute.
After a long journey from Essex for the visitors and a delayed start to the match, Dereham had the better chances in the first 25 minutes and Joe Gatting and Ashley Jarvis both went close to opening the scoring for the Magpies.
However, Brentwood grew into the game and Ranger shot just wide of goal shortly before Stokes opener. They could have increased their lead just before the break when Stokes set up Ranger whose shot was deflected onto the foot of a post and out for a corner.
Five minutes after the restart, Blues keeper Tim Brown tipped over the bar a fierce long range from Sam Borrer and Dereham were denied an equaliser when the ball hit a post six minutes later.
Joe Gating headed the Magpies level from a corner in the 67th minute and Jarvis put Dereham ahead with a far post header nine minutes later.
16-year-old defender Henry Fisher came off the bench to make his first team in the last twenty minutes. Brentwood showed a lot of character to battle back in the closing stages and earn a point. They soon return to action, with another league fixture on Thursday, away to Witham Town.
Brentwood Town: T.Brown, Pugsley (Fisher 69), L.Brown, Gibbs, Martin, Cavalier, Hilton, Jones, Stokes (Stanley 79), Foster.
