Thursday 26th April
BOSTIK DIVISION ONE NORTH
BRENTWOOD TOWN 0 – 2 CANVEY ISLAND
Blues last home fixture of the season saw promotion-chasing Canvey Island take the points with two second half goals at the Brentwood Arena on Thursday evening.
With the home side now safe from the threat of relegation and Canvey certain of a sixth-place finish in Bostik North, which guarantees them a play-off place, there was little to play for, but the two teams produced an entertaining 90 minutes for the 117 spectators.
The visiting Gulls created the better chances in the match, but Blues went closest to opening the scoring in the first half when Jack Mitchell, on his first start in the first team, hit the post with a close-range header.
Daryl Robson hit Canvey crossbar early in the second half with a left foot shot but Tim Brown in the Brentwood goal was the busier of the two goalkeepers, making several fine saves. However, Brown was beaten in the 66th minute when Martin Tuohy scored with a header at the far post.
It was 2-0 with fifteen minutes remaining, Ryan Charles’ fine run setting up Frankie Merrifield for a clinical finish.
Brentwood Town: T.Brown, Pugsley, Gardner, Gibbs, Martin, Cavalier, Robson, Jones (Cuthbert 65), Hunter (Hilton 76), Stanley (Foster 70), Mitchell.
