FA YOUTH CUP 1st QUALIFYING ROUND
TAKELEY 3 – 7 BRENTWOOD TOWN
An impressive display by Brentwood saw them progress into the next round of the FA Youth Cup.
Frankie Goodall led the way with a first half hat-trick and he added a fourth in the second half as his team produced some splendid counter-attacking football.
The teams looked evenly matched in the opening half hour with little suggestion of the goal glut that was to come. Goodall put the visitors ahead in the 37th minute but Takeley were level within a minute when Alfie Wells scored with a splendid long-range effort that found the top corner.
Many of Brentwood’s best moves revolved around Max Gnandi and it was he who set up Goodall’s second goal in the 41st minute, with the striker adding his third two minutes later. Olly Miles then reduced the arrears for the home team, scoring direct from a free kick with the last kick of the first half.
Five minutes into the second half it was 3-3 courtesy of Takeley’s Casey Ajayi and the game was very much in the balance. But straight from the restart Arpan Sen restored Brentwood’s lead, and the goals continued to flow through Elliott Long, Goodall, and Buster Noble.
Brentwood will now meet Grays Athletic at home in the 2nd Qualifying Round, the tie due to be played in the week beginning Monday 1st October.
