The Bank holiday weekend proved a fruitless one for Brentwood Town with two league defeats, 3-0 at Grays Athletic on Saturday, and a 3-1 loss at home Hashtag United on Monday.
The score line at Grays was not a true reflection of the match between two evenly matched teams but the finishing of former Brentwood striker Sam Bantick proved decisive. It could have been a different story had Brentwood taken a first minute lead, but Tom Richardson was denied by the crossbar and debutant Lennie Armstrong, who came off the bench at the start of the second half, hit the post twice during the second half. Another new signing, Wyan Reid, who had a brief spell with the club two years ago was another “debutant” for Brentwood.
Bantick struck twice in the space of five minutes shortly before half time and Ronnie Winn sealed the win for Grays in the 88th minute.
Monday’s fixture saw Brentwood take the lead through Richardson with a penalty kick in the 42nd minute after Matt Price had been fouled.
Hashtag then had a chance to equalise from the penalty spot four minutes into the second half, but Harry Girling made a good save. However, the visitors were level in the 53rd minute through Lewis Watson and Pedro Carvalho made it 2-1 in the 66th, with Matthew Wooldridge adding the third in the last minute.
Brentwood now have a break until 10th September when their next fixture will be away to Witham Town in the FA Trophy.
