Saturday 2nd April
PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN NORTH
BURY TOWN 1 – 2 BRENTWOOD TOWN
For the second time in less than two weeks Brentwood earned a narrow 2-1 victory over Bury Town. The first meeting at Brentwood on Tuesday 22nd March saw Tom Richardson hit two goals in the first twenty minutes before limping off injured after an hour’s play. He had not appeared for Brentwood since then but made his comeback in Saturday’s match at Cotton Lane and repeated his first half two-goal feat to set up a valuable three points for Brentwood in their quest for a play-off place.
Brentwood started strongly and went ahead after ten minutes when a fine move between Jai Reason and Freddie Gard ended with Richardson firing emphatically into the bottom corner to register his 30th goal of the season.
Bury equalised in the 19th minute when Joe White headed home from close range after Thomas Gee headed Jake Chambers Shaw’s free kick across the face of the goal.
Reason’s effort struck the outside of a post before Richardson restored the lead in the 35th minute converting from a yard out after Andy Freeman’s header had hit the inside of the goalpost following Rob Harvey’s long throw from the right wing.
In a closely fought second half neither goalkeeper was seriously tested but Brentwood had to defend well before the end with Cemal Ramadan going closest to an equaliser for the home side in the 82nd minute.
