Brentwood Town 3 - 5 Southend United

Toiling Brentwood Town bow out of the FA Trophy Third Round after a defeat to National League outfit Southend United.

The Blues opened the scoring in the 11th minute as a free kick delivery found Danny Ogunleye who slotted one home.

Southend came close to equalising when Keenan Appiah-Forson found himself one on one with Melvin Minter, but his shot was denied.

Cav Miley levelled the visitors with his in swinging shot from the edge of the box heading into the top corner.

Aribim Pepple and Kennan Appiah-Forson both had the opportunity to put The Shrimpers ahead but their shots were struck wide.

An enticing header from George Wind scraped against the underside of the crossbar to deny The Shrimpers before the break.

The visitors took the lead with the strike of Pepple finding the net. The forward got on the end of a George Wind delivery from the right and calmly slotted the ball home.

Pepple got his second of the afternoon as his shot slipped past Minter to give The Shrimpers a two goal advantage. George Wind was once again the provider, picking out the Canadian forward on the penalty spot, who duly converted.

Pepple had the opportunity to get a hat-trick moments later and stepped up to the penalty spot, but the shot was struck over the crossbar.

Another penalty was awarded to The Shrimpers and this time Pepple converted from the spot to get his hat-trick.

Ogunleye got one back for The Blues, getting to a loose ball first and striking from six yards out.

Josh Walker made it five for The Shrimpers as he tapped home the cross of Nathan Ralph.

Just minutes later Harry Elsey came off from the bench and got a late goal back as he got on the end of a Jon Nzengo cross and his header was put into the back of the net.
