Witham Town 1-2 Brentwood Town
Saturday 5th April
Isthmian League North Division
Brentwood Town extended their league lead to five points with a win over Witham Town.
The hosts were reduced to 10 men early on as Rowan Dorling was given a straight red for a foul on Melvin Minter.
The Blues secured the lead just four minutes on. Mekhi McKenzie put a powerful header into the centre of the box after getting on the end of an in swinging cross by Daniel Ogunleye. Benas Vaivada sent the effort goal wards before Witham’s attempted clearance by Issac Skubich knocked it over the line.
Witham equalised moments after as Liam Whipps responded quickly and was able to convert a rebound clearance.
On the brink of half time an inswinging corner forced an acrobatic save from Minter to keep the sides level.
Vaivada opened the second half scoring as he fired home a through ball that was sent beyond the Witham back line by Ogunleye.
A bicycle kick attempt from Romel Aarons-Royal was caught by Harry Fairs before long range efforts from Lee Noble and Jon Nzengo respectively were struck above the bar.
The Blues return to league action this Friday where they welcome Tilbury to The Arena.
