Blues held to draw by Maldon & Tiptree

Club News | 21 Dec 2024

Brentwood Town and Maldon & Tiptree settled for a point apiece on Friday evening.

In the opening minutes, an effort from Mekhi McKenzie struck against the crossbar to deny The Blues an early lead.

Moments later a long range shot by Lee Noble forced a save by the gloves of Jamie Grossart.

However, it was Danny Ogunleye who netted his 22nd goal of the campaign and put Brentwood ahead as he cut inside from the left hand side and found the goal.

Maldon found an equaliser as they emerged from half time as Josh Lee got on the end of a rebound from a Melvin Minter save and slotted the ball home from 6 yards.

The Blues were then controversially denied a second as Romél Aarons Royal headed the ball in at the back post, but the referee dismissed it as a foul.

Lyle Della-Verde attempted an incredible effort from his own half that fell inches over the roof of the goal before the Jammers fired against the woodwork in additional time, resulting in both sides taking a point, with the final score 1-1.

The Blues return to league action and will make the short journey to Basildon United on Boxing Day.
