Saturday 5th January
BOSTIK LEAGUE DIVISION ONE NORTH
WITHAM TOWN 2 – 1 BRENTWOOD TOWN
After dominating the first half hour of this match and taking a deserved lead through Ernest Okoh, Blues conceded two goals before half time, a deficit they could not overcome in a goalless second half.
The pace of Okoh on the right flank caused the home side a lot of problems in the early stages and it was no surprise when he gave Brentwood a 24th minute lead, beating Witham goalkeeper Luca Collins at his near post with a fierce drive from the right.
Witham equalised in the 34th minute when Toby Aromolaran burst away through the middle and beat Blues keeper Rob Budd with an emphatic finish.
Aromolaran was proving a handful for the visiting defence and in the 45th minute he was brought down in the penalty area by Danny Hurford and Luke Mallett put Witham ahead from the resulting penalty kick.
Witham had lost full back Kevin Coyle to injury during the first half and they suffered another setback when goalkeeper Collins was unable to continue after an injury in stoppage time. There was a length delay while he had treatment with a total of eleven extra minutes being played in the first half.
Outfield player Danny Norton took over in goal for the remainder of the match but Blues struggled to test the stand-in keeper and he dealt comfortably with any efforts from the Blues attack.
Brentwood Town: Budd, Fox, Martin, Carter, Gordon (Littlejohn 71), Hurford (Hunter 46), Smith, Okoh, Doyle, Apenteng (Hilton 71), Stokes.
