Isthmian League North Division

Brentwood Town advance three points clear at the top after five second half goals secured an emphatic victory over Newmarket Town.

Both sides came knocking in the opening ten minutes before Brentwood secured a free-kick through Lyle Della-Verde which fell narrowly short of the post.

Jesse Olukolu curled a well-weighted cross into the box which was met by a George Smith header, but the effort was placed inches over the bar.

Newmarket captain Correy Davidson momentarily put the visitors ahead before his attempt was ruled out as offside and left both sides level at the break.

George Smith netted his first goal in a Brentwood shirt as he calmly slotted the ball past James Young, before tapping home his second a minute later.

Top scorer Danny Ogunleye secured his 35th of the season in quick succession as he struck a curling effort from outside of the box into the top right corner.

Sam Park netted his first of the season after receiving an Andy Freeman dink ball in the box and fired his volley home, before Ayo Odukoya made it five.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Maldon and Tiptree on Non-League Day.
