Club News | 27 Oct 2024

A stoppage time stunner saw Brentwood Town into the second round of the FA Trophy over step 3 side Cray Valley Paper Mills.

It is the first time in FA Trophy history that both sides have been drawn against each other but The Blues took an early lead as the delivery of Shad Ngandu was headed into the net by captain Matt Cripps.

Minutes later The Blues doubled their lead through a superb edge of the box strike by Jon Nzengo.

Cray Valley got one back a minute later as the shot of Danny Waldren got past Melvin Minter.

A curling shot by Tom Beere was tipped over the bar by the fingertips of Minter to deny an equaliser in the opening 20 minutes of the half.

Jesse Olukolu made it three as his curling strike made its way into the net before Freddie Parker got his 12th goal in all competitions as he fired one home for the visitors.

Fumnaya Shomotun got the visitors back on level terms on the stroke of half time.

Olukolu nearly put The Blues ahead in the opening of the second half but his shot was inches over the crossbar.

An in swinging free kick from Lee Noble met Mekhi McKenzie in the box but his header was wide of the left post.

The Blues regained the lead in the closing stages of stoppage time as substitute Benas Vaivada squared the ball into the box and was tapped home by Romél Aarons-Royal.

This victory has equalled Brentwood Town’s best trophy run from three seasons ago and information surrounding our opponent’s for the second round will be drawn on Monday.
