ISTHMIAN NORTH DIVISION
AVELEY 0 – 0 BRENTWOOD TOWN
Brentwood battled hard to earn a point against promotion-chasing Aveley on Monday night.
Despite the lack of goals, it was an entertaining match at Parkside with the home side having the better chances and Brentwood goalkeeper Tim Brown made several good saves. However, it was Brown’s opposite number David Hughes who was first in action, grabbing the loose ball after an early free kick was deflected in the Aveley goal area.
Each team’s line-up included a number of players who have played for both clubs and it was ex-Brentwood forward Alex Akrofi who put the ball in the net after only four minutes, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Andy Freeman for Brentwood had a chance when he broke away but could not manage a shot or a telling pass as he was crowded out on the edge of the home penalty area.
Brown saved well from Akrofi, Wyan Reid and Jason Raad in the first half and Freeman forced a save from Hughes early in the second half. The Millers pressed hard late in the game but the Blues defence that included new signing James Hammond held on for the draw.
Brentwood Town: Brown, Mead, Bacon (Wicks 86), Hammond, Kemsley, Clark, Topley, Edwards, Hubbard (Dickinson 75), Freeman, Rees (Fleming 67).
