Tuesday 5th November
Essex Senior Cup 3rd Round
Witham Town 2 – 2 Brentwood Town
(Witham Town win 4-3 on penalties)
A 91st minute equaliser by Witham’s Ayomide Adelaja sent this county cup tie to a penalty shootout which the home side won 4-3.
Brentwood’s lineup included debutants Jack Munns, a weekend signing who was recently at Welling United, and under-18 centre back Harry Elsey who had impressed in the first team’s pre-season programme.
Bena Vaivada put the visitors ahead three minutes before half time, but Witham equalised three minutes after the break, Adelaja getting his first of the night, only for Romel Aarons Royal to restore Brentwood’s lead in the 50th minute.
The penalty shoot out was not straight forward. Shad Ngandu scored with the first penalty, but each side missed both of their next two kicks. The contest was finally settled when the fourteenth kick was converted to put Witham through to the next round.
