BRENTWOOD TOWN 3 – 1 GRAYS ATHLETIC
By Michaela Georgopoulos
A Friday Night Football victory for Brentwood Town positioned them just one point away from 4th place at the beginning of the weekend.
After starting the game with a more defensive style of play, The Blues began to open up and generated chances including a strike from George Sykes that was pushed out for a corner by Anthony Page.
The Blues took the lead in the 20th minute from a free kick put into the back of the net by Romél Aarons Royal, who also netted one in the reverse fixture back in November.
There was calls for a penalty from a handball by Alejandro Machado, which was not awarded by the officials but a few moments later Wyan Reid was able to double Brentwood’s lead on the stroke of half time by converting from the spot.
The visitors managed to pull one back in the 62nd minute with Matas Skarna striking the ball just over the top of Melvin Minter.
Only four minutes after conceding, Brentwood made it three with a header from their top goal scorer Mekhi McKenzie finding its way past Anthony Page.
This cements Brentwood into 5th place in the league before they welcome play-off contenders Bowers & Pitsea back to The Arena this Tuesday for a rerun of the Essex Derby.
