ISTHMIAN NORTH
WALTHAMSTOW 1 – 2 BRENTWOOD TOWN
Two fine goals by Daniel Ogunleye either side of half time earned Brentwood a win at Wadham Lodge. Walthamstow were previously unbeaten in the league this season having taken ten points from their first four games and they started the match in second place in the Isthmian North table.
Brentwood introduced new signing Josh Rusoke who settled in well at left back and they also welcomed back Connor Witherspoon, a former product of Brentwood Town youth, and he came on for the last 25 minutes.
Right back James Love suffered a head injury and had to be replaced by Kingdom Dawson seven minutes before half time.
Ogunleye got behind the home defence in the 45th minute and lobbed keeper Matthew Nolan to put Brentwood in front and Ogunleye struck again ten minutes into the second half making it 2-0 with a fierce shot that went in off the underside of the crossbar giving Nolan no chance of saving.
Jay Rolfe produced a good strike for Stow to make it 2-1 in the 76th minute and Brentwood had to survive a late onslaught with keeper Melvin Minter producing a fine save to deny Carl Mensah an equaliser, while at the other end, Nolan saved well from another Brentwood sub Flynn Hamilton, an under-18 who was also making his first team debut.
