HEAVY EASTER MONDAY DEFEAT AT TILBURY

Monday 22nd April
BOSTIK NORTH DIVISION
TILBURY 4 – 1 BRENTWOOD TOWN

Brentwood Town suffered one of their heaviest defeats of the season when they visited Chadfields to take on Tilbury on Easter Monday.

These two mid-table sides had little to play for but produced an entertaining match for the Bank Holiday crowd.

Dockers’ Mitchell Gilbey shot over the bar from a very good position in the fourth minute and Blues’ Albert Levett had a shot saved by home keeper Rhys Madden six minutes later, but Tilbury took a 14th minute lead when Brentwood keeper Rob Budd failed to collect the ball and Oli Spooner nipped in for an easy finish.

Connor Martin had a chance to equalise from Danny Hurford’s corner, but his header hit the feet of Madden and the keeper also had to save a free kick from Kojo Apenteng just after the half hour mark. But Tilbury were 2-0 ahead in the 34th minute, George Sykes netting with a firm header from Kris Newby’s corner.

Sykes made it 3-0 in the 57th minute when Dockers broke away from a Blues corner and Gilbey’s precision pass picked out the striker who finished well. Harry Watkins scored Tilbury’s fourth goal in the 68th minute.

Brentwood seemed out of the game but pulled back a goal through Nathan Fox, his second of the Easter weekend, in the 76th minute. A comeback was highly unlikely but the pace of Apenteng and substitute Ernest Okoh began to trouble the Tilbury defence and they created a number of chances with Apenteng seeing Madden saving his shot from ten yards and Apenteng just failed to convert an Okoh cross at the far post.

Brentwood Town: Budd, Fox, Hunter, Mallett (Nche 58), Martin, Hurford, Hilton (Okoh 58), Levett, Hughes, Apenteng, Stokes.
