Hero of Hereford: Benas Vaivada

Club News | 5 Dec 2024

Ahead of our FA Trophy Third Round tie against Southend United, we caught up with the Hero of Hereford, Benas Vaivada. The Blues' winger came off the bench to score the winner, securing a historic victory for Brentwood Town, which sees us playing in the Third Round of the FA Trophy for the first time in our history.

You came on and scored what proved to be the winner against Hereford. Talk us through your goal.

I remember scoring a similar goal vs Leiston away in the FA Cup and it was actually Marlon who crossed in that game also. I thought if I anticipate the same type of cross from him I could have a tap in and thankfully that was the case.

What was the mood like in the camp the night before and morning of the match?

Honestly, the boys were so relaxed. We enjoyed some FIFA, had some food together and chilled. The morning of the match was the same and as we got closer to kick off we were more locked in, just doing whatever routine worked for us.

We face Southend United in the Third Round of the FA Trophy. How did the boys react to the news and what are you expecting from Kevin Maher's side?

We were pretty chilled about the news. I know some players have been at Southend in the past so it will be nice for them to play this game. I’m expecting a strong, physical side that will be looking to put us under pressure from the first minute to the last.

We face The Shrimpers at home. Do you feel that home advantage will give the team a boost?

I think being at home will definitely give us a boost - we will need all the fans getting behind us to give us the best chance of winning this game.

You've found the net 7 times since joining Brentwood Town from Bowers and Pitsea. How would you assess your start to life at The Arena, and what are your aspirations for the rest of the season?

I think my start has been alright. I would like to have more goals and assists and feel The Arena is still yet to see the best of me. My only aspiration this year is to get this club promoted.
