MATCH PREVIEW: Brentwood Town vs Cray Valley Paper Mills

The Blues return to The Brentwood Centre Arena on Saturday to welcome high flying Cray Valley Paper Mills in the First Round Proper of the FA Trophy.

Brentwood Town enter this weekend having secured a 5-0 victory and clean sheet over Haringey Borough. Marlon Agyakwa opened the scoring in the third minute before goals by Danny Ogunleye and Jon Nzengo followed. Andrew Freeman made it four by scoring from a corner kick before Agyakwa fired a shot in from the edge of the box to conclude the match’s scoring. The Blues have picked up 12 points from their last 5 league matches, with Ogunleye being their leading goal scorer this season on 10 goals in all competitions.

Ahead of the match, Blues Assistant Manager Steve Butterworth said 'I'm really looking forward to Saturday. the boys are in great form, so let's hope we can continue that form come 5PM on Saturday." Asked about what he is expecting from Saturday's opposition, Scouse quoted "It's going to be a tough test. Cray Valley are doing extremely well themselves in the Isthmian Premier. So let's all get behind the boys and hopefully get us in the next round!"

Barry will be making a presentation at the game to representatives of Saint Francis Hospice, one of our local charities we are proud to support. 

 

CRAY VALLEY PAPER MILLS
Step three side Cray Valley PM enter this weekend having secured a 3-2 league victory over Bognor Regis Town and a 4-2 Velocity Cup victory away to Sevenoaks Town. The visitors have started smoothy in the Premier Division having picked up six wins, three losses and two draws in 11 games. They currently sit fourth in their league table and are only three points in deficit of league leaders Dover Athletic.

In the opposition’s dugout:
Steve McKimm leads Cray Valley PM for the 2024-25 season alongside his management team. Last season saw McKimm and The Millers gain promotion to the Premier Division after becoming champions of the South East Division title. Prior to this, the partnership of McKimm and his assistant Barry Moore managed Tonbridge Angels into a play off-semi final spot in the Isthmian League Premier Division during the 2015-16 season. The Angels also secured promotion into National League South under this management team after winning 2-1 in the 2018-
19 play-offs against Haringey Borough.

Freddie Parker is a standout scorer for The Millers having netted 11 goals in all competitions this season. Danny Waldren has picked up 4 goals this season, with three of his own respectively opening the scoring of different games.

The sides last met in a pre-season friendly in September 2020 which saw Cray Valley score an 86th minute goal to take a 1-0 victory over The Blues.
