Regent end Blues unbeaten run

Brentwood Town 1-2 Brightlingsea Regent
Saturday 1st February
Isthmian League North Division
Attendance: 455

Brightlingsea Regent claimed all three points from the in-form Brentwood Town at The Arena.

The visitors opened the game strongly as a cross from the right by Marley Andrews found Teddy Collis but his shot was fired over the bar.

Collis capitalised from a loose pass and managed to convert a shot from inside the box to put the visitors ahead. Regent picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch before breaking down the right, with Collis being picked out in the box and subsequently finding the back of the net.

The Blues looked to respond when a free kick was whipped into the box by Ade Cole and headed by Matt Cripps but did not make its way over the line.

Brightlingsea were awarded a penalty as Cripps narrowly clipped Jake Clowsley. Collis stood up to the spot but was denied by Melvin Minter to prevent a cushioned lead. Minter then gathered the headed follow up effort comfortably.

The Blues countered quickly down the right following the penalty save, with Ogunleye getting his head on a cross, but his attempt was dealt with by North.

Vaivada then turned nicely in the box and got a shot away on the half volley, but his effort went over the bar.

At the other end, Minter pushed a long range shot from Robinson around the post for a corner.

Moments later, Collis doubled the visitors lead as he responded to a rebound in the crowded area, just a few minutes before the interval.

Danny Ogunleye came close to reducing the deficit early in the second half but his shot was denied by Christian North.

Louie Kudiabor looked to get another but was blocked on his run by Taylor Curran before George Sykes immediately netted one back for The Blues as he struck a shot into the top right corner.

Brentwood were close to levelling as a shot by Ogunleye produced a rebound for Jesse Olukolu before his shot was collected by North.

Brentwood are back in action this Tuesday as they take on fifth place Tilbury at Chadfields.
