BRENTWOOD TOWN 1 – 2 MALDON & TIPTREE

After playing 80 minutes with only ten men, Brentwood succumbed to a last-minute winning goal by Maldon’s Danny Parish.

Blues Jack Edwards was red carded for a foul on the halfway line after just ten minutes into the first half and it was always going to be a difficult task against a Maldon team that is expected to be challenging for promotion again this season.

Andy Freeman had recovered from an ankle injury that kept him out of match at Grays on Saturday and he was in the Blues starting line-up along with another returning midfielder Connor Hogan, who had signed the previous day from Cheshunt.

The Jammers soon made the man advantage count and took a 22nd minute lead when Tyrique Hyde’s shot was well saved by Tim Brown and ex-Brentwood striker Charlee Hughes followed up to score.

However, Brentwood were level on 29 minutes when the visitors’ goalkeeper Ben McNamara gifted the ball to Jason Williams and the striker gratefully took the chance.

Brentwood defended bravely in the second half and deserved to hang on for a point under a lot of pressure with keeper Brown making a string of good saves. But he could do nothing when Parish lashed home a loose ball with 90 minutes on the clock.

Brentwood Town: Brown, Pugsley (Dickinson 46), Toner, Baker, Cosson, Edwards, Anderson, Hogan (Wiggins 81), Williams (Seabrook 78), Milner, Freeman.
