THE BLUES ARE THROUGH AFTER PENALTY TRIUMPH

Club News | 6 Oct 2024

Brentwood Town triumphed over step 3 Cray Wanderers in a penalty shootout and advance beyond the third qualifying round for the second time in the club’s history.

Not much separated the two sides during the early stages of the game with both having chances on goal.

But it was The Blues who took the lead through a close range shot by Connor Witherspoon into the bottom right corner.

The visitors had the chance to level but the volley of Toby King was denied by the gloves of Melvin Minter.

Brentwood came close to extending their lead before half time but a shot by Mekhi McKenzie was struck over the crossbar.

Cray opened the second half scoring when a shot by Lateef Adaja found its way past Minter.

A header against the crossbar by Romél Aarons Royal nearly regained the lead for The Blues in the closing stages but it was all down to penalties.

Cray were first to step up but their shot was denied by Minter. The Blues saw spot kicks scored by Shad Ngandu, Matt Cripps, Benas Vaivada and Danny Ogunleye, to win 4-3 on penalties.

The Blues are back in league action this Tuesday as they travel to face Ipswich Wanderers.
